STARTED
WAY BACK...
…when I was a kid, making
tacos for my homies.
born in the Backyard
When I was in high school, me and my friends would have competitions to see who could make the best tacos. Every time we would change something minor to try to beat out the next guy for bragging rights. After a while, I found a recipe that just hit and they started choosing my tacos over their own.
It was never my plan to open up a taco joint one day. I just enjoyed serving good food to good people, and seeing them happy through my cooking.
With our first location in Huntington Beach, I don’t know how we made it, but we did.
Nobody wanted to take a chance on me at first. Most restaurants fail in their first year, so who would want to take that risk? Thankfully, my best friend and his dad, John, stepped in. They were the only ones willing to loan me the money to open our first location in Huntington Beach in 2010.
Three years later, I opened a second location in Newport Beach with the help of my wife, Erika. In the morning, we would kiss each other goodbye and she would go to work the register in Newport, and I would work the one in Huntington.

We also have a 1943 double-decker bus that we restored and slammed on the ground. Featuring Donnie’s design in every detail, Kool Hand Luke artwork splashed throughout, a full stainless steel kitchen and a rad lounge upstairs, the Sancho’s Truck delivers an experience like no other!
